About the Project

Support for Health and Rural Education (SHARE 1) was ILIN’s flagship nationwide health mission, bringing essential medical care directly to communities that rarely have access to it. Across 10 districts of Nepal — from the remote mountains of Dolakha and Rasuwa to the Terai belt of Kapilbastu and the mid-western hills of Surkhet and Dailekh — the project delivered free specialist consultations, eye care, cataract surgeries, and diagnostic services to people who would otherwise face long, costly journeys to reach a hospital. By taking specialist doctors, equipment, and medicines into isolated villages, SHARE 1 reached more than 7,000 people and established the model of accessible rural healthcare that continues today through SHARE 2.

Objectives

Improve access to essential healthcare for poor and underserved communities in remote and rural Nepal.
Provide free specialist consultations, diagnostics, and treatment in areas without nearby health facilities.
Restore vision through eye screening, cataract surgery, and corrective care.
Reduce the financial and geographic barriers that prevent villagers from seeking treatment.
Establish a replicable model for large-scale rural health camps across multiple districts.

Activities

Organising and running free health camps across 10 districts of Nepal.
Providing specialist doctor consultations and general health screening.
Conducting eye-care services, including cataract extraction surgeries and corrective care.
Delivering diagnostic services and distributing essential medicines free of charge.
Coordinating with local health posts and communities to identify and reach patients in need.

Project Outcomes

More than 7,000 people received free healthcare across 10 districts of Nepal.
Patients in remote and underserved areas gained access to specialist consultations and diagnostics they could not otherwise afford.
Cataract surgeries and eye care restored vision and independence for villagers.
A proven nationwide health-camp model was established, leading directly into SHARE 2.
