About the Project

Make Women Independent through Skills and Entrepreneurship (Make-WISE 1) was the first phase of ILIN’s women’s economic empowerment programme in Goldhunga-5, Tarkeshwor. It was created to give financially disadvantaged women, widows, and single mothers a genuine route to financial independence through practical, market-ready skills. The programme provided structured vocational training in tailoring and garment-making, helping women move from economic dependency toward earning their own income. As the founding phase, Make-WISE 1 established the training model — combining hands-on skills, enterprise support, and encouragement — that was carried forward and expanded in Make-WISE 2 and 3.

Objectives

Empower financially disadvantaged women, widows, and single mothers toward economic independence.
Provide market-driven vocational training in tailoring, stitching, and garment-making.
Equip women with the practical skills needed to earn an income or start a small enterprise.
Build participants’ confidence and self-reliance through structured, hands-on learning.
Establish a replicable women’s empowerment model for future phases.

Activities

Selecting and enrolling disadvantaged women, widows, and single mothers from the community.
Delivering structured training in basic and intermediate tailoring, cutting, and garment production.
Providing hands-on practice and guidance in producing marketable garments.
Supporting participants toward employment or launching their own tailoring work.
Encouraging saving and basic enterprise skills to sustain income.

Project Outcomes

Disadvantaged women gained practical, market-ready tailoring and garment-making skills.
Participants moved toward earning their own income and greater financial independence.
Women’s confidence and self-reliance improved through structured vocational training.
The Make-WISE training model was successfully established, leading into Phase 2.
