About the Project

Empowering Youths through Education and Skills (EYES 2) was the second cohort of ILIN’s flagship youth scholarship programme, building directly on the foundation laid by EYES 1. It continued ILIN’s commitment to keeping talented but economically disadvantaged young people in the Kathmandu Valley in education and out of the cycle of poverty. Alongside covering technical education, EYES 2 placed particular emphasis on supporting students’ living and wellbeing needs — including hostel accommodation and health supplies — recognising that stable, safe living conditions are essential for young people to focus on their studies. Through this phase, 17 youths received the comprehensive support they needed to complete their training and move toward self-reliance.

Objectives

  • Continue and strengthen the EYES scholarship model established in the first phase.
  • Provide financial support for technical and vocational education among disadvantaged youths.
  • Ensure students have stable living conditions through hostel accommodation and health support.
  • Reduce dropout risk driven by financial and living-cost pressures.
  • Prepare beneficiaries for employment and long-term independence.

Activities

  • Selecting and vetting a second cohort of eligible disadvantaged youths.
  • Funding technical and vocational education for the selected students.
  • Providing hostel accommodation to support safe, stable living conditions.
  • Supplying health and hygiene support alongside educational materials.
  • Mentoring students and monitoring their academic progress through to completion.

Project Outcomes

  • 17 disadvantaged youths received full support to continue and complete their education.
  • Students benefited from stable accommodation and health support, improving retention.
  • The EYES model was reinforced and refined, feeding into later phases of the programme.
  • Beneficiaries advanced toward employability and financial self-reliance.
