About the Project

Empowering Youths through Education and Skills (EYES 1) was the foundational phase of ILIN’s flagship youth scholarship programme. It was created to ensure that talented but economically disadvantaged young people in the Kathmandu Valley would not be forced to abandon their studies because of financial hardship. Rather than covering tuition alone, EYES 1 supported the whole student — funding academic and technical training along with the everyday costs that so often push vulnerable youths out of education. Through this first cohort, 23 destitute youths received complete financial coverage to continue their studies and build a path toward self-reliance, laying the groundwork for the EYES 2, Follow-On, and Phase IV programmes that followed.

Objectives

Prevent school and college dropout among economically disadvantaged youths in the Kathmandu Valley.
Provide full financial coverage for academic and technical/vocational education.
Support the complete student ecosystem — tuition, learning materials, and living needs — not just fees.
Enable youths to gain qualifications that lead to employment and long-term self-reliance.
Establish a scalable scholarship model to expand in future EYES phases.

Activities

Identifying and vetting eligible destitute youths for scholarship support.
Covering tuition and technical/vocational training costs for the selected cohort.
Providing educational materials, and supporting accommodation and living needs where required.
Mentoring and tracking students’ academic progress throughout the programme.
Guiding scholars toward employment and further education on completion.

Project Outcomes

23 disadvantaged youths received complete financial support to continue their education.
Students who were at risk of dropping out were able to complete their academic and technical training.
A proven, repeatable scholarship model was established, directly leading to EYES 2 and later phases.
Beneficiaries moved closer to employability and financial independence.
